‘Hues of Black and Blue’ explores the multivalent connotations of the colors black and blue in sync. Touching on the many implications of these colors (i.e., skin color, police state violence, rituals of resistance, indigo dye practices, Blues music genres, melancholia, and more), this series relies on the conceptual and literal contexts of this duality for collective and individual memories to unfurl.

This body of work centers the ecology of the Black Haptic memory and [sub]consciousness through the making of ceramic objects, images, and collage paintings. Through ceramic vessel making, a tethered understanding of history and the intuitive nature of embodied knowledge, I find that objects of memory operate to form a broader ecology of the material, the human, and the symbolic.
“My clay work brings together experiments rooted at the intersections of the Black Haptic (sub)Conscious and speculative cartography led by the bodily mark or form. Blue—in all of its violently layered and colorful idioms, allows for pain, beauty and reflection to be held in the initial examination of the work.”
